Long sunny days, gorgeous green grass, sun-kissed skin…these are a few of the things that bring people to inquire about photo sessions during the summer months. Along with the dog days of summer in the south also comes the all too familiar HEAT and HUMIDITY. Even though I was born and raised in the south I have never been a fan of the summer weather in South Carolina. I envy those who can drink up a southern day in the sun like it’s a cool glass of sweet tea.

However, just because I never acclimated to the heat doesn’t mean I put away my camera during our hottest months. In fact, these are typically my BUSIEST months of the year. So, if you’re thinking of doing a summer shoot please read on for some tried and true strategies for beating the heat and having a successful summer photo session.


Seven o’clock PM is that magical evening hour for photography from June-September. OnePlus 5 price It may not be that much cooler in temperature but not having the sun beating down on you makes a big difference. Also, meeting at 7:00 gives us that flattering glowy light.


Wear Cotton

Breathable and loose fitting clothing, folks. You’ll feel so much better if you do. Also, if time permits feel free to bring an extra change of clothes so that if you find yourself too warm you can change in to something else. Not to mention you’ll have more variety in photographs.

 Water. Water. Water.

Hydrate before, during, and after the shoot. Make sure kids drink plenty of water, too. When you need to take a break and drink some cold water I will be happy to accommodate. Trust me, I’ll be needing to take a water break too.


Hair and Make-up

Sweat is bound to happen, y’all. I suggest that people bring any hairbrushes, combs, hair ties, hairpins, hairspray, make-up, and deodorant along with them in a bag. Don’t worry about time, if you need to take a few minutes to freshen up please feel free to do so!
